COVID-19 Update – Operational disturbances at U.S. airports and seaports
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to effect global supply chains, the Falcon team remains committed to providing our clients and partners with the most up-to-date information.
Airfreight
Chicago and Las Vegas: Positive COVID-19 tests at air traffic control towers temporarily suspended operations at Chicago Midway Airport (March 17) and Las Vegas McCarran Airport (March 19), causing significant flight disruptions.
New York: Longer than usual wait times have been experienced for cargo pickups at JFK due to congestion this week.
Ocean Freight
Port of Houston: Positive COVID-19 test caused the closures of the Bayport and Barbour’s Cut terminals March 18 and 19. The terminals are expected to re-open March 20.
Port of Los Angeles / Long Beach: APM Terminals is working reduced days and hours. The terminal was closed March 17 and 19, and will be closed for the second shift of March 20.
Port of NY / NJ: Appointments are required March 19 and 20 at APM Terminals. PNCT Terminal was closed March 17.
Further disruptions due to positive tests, flight/sailing reductions, and staff shortages should be expected at airports and seaports throughout the United States in the coming weeks. These disruptions can easily lead to congestion and delays.
