Severe Port Congestion LA/LB
Due to severe congestion and deteriorating service at the Port of Los Angeles/Long Beach, we are strongly urging customers to avoid using the port.
For several months, the port complex – which is the busiest in the United States – has been struggling to keep pace with record-high shipping volumes. As a result, vessels must wait offshore for days to be serviced and lead times for container pickup/drop-offs can be several weeks (including for empty container returns). Truck availability for container haulage is becoming increasingly scarce. Several weeks of demurrage/detention can easily accrue on a shipment.
Within the past several days, a widescale COVID-19 outbreak has been reported at the port complex – including 700 longshoremen that have tested positive and 1,800 unable to work. This situation is expected to make the congestion worse. With high shipping volumes forecast through the spring, the congestion problem is unlikely to be resolved in the near-term.
Please speak with the Falcon customer service team about alternative options to bypass Los Angeles/Long Beach.
